Artist Statement

Monica S. Camin

As an Argentine-born artist based in New Jersey, Texas, and Portland, Oregon, I draw inspiration from childhood memories, ancestral stories, and social progress. Through my art, I explore the emotional landscape, bridging the experiences of growing up as the daughter of immigrants in Latin America with my own journey of personal immigration and identity in Israel and the United States. My work delves into the upheaval caused by cultural shifts and the importance of preserving our roots. With a career spanning decades, I’ve exhibited globally, curated museum shows, and published a memoir, Mi niñez fue tan pintoresca / My childhood was so colorful. I’m also involved in organizations like the Neo-Latino collective and Stelo Arts.
